The NATIONAL RAILWAY CO-OPERATIVES MALAYSIA is a micro financing organisation for railway workers and government servants although any citizen could become a member of the Co-operative.
It is widely represented Nationally and Internationally through the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE ALLIANCE HOUSING COMMITTEE FOR ASIA & THE PACIFIC; THE INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE ALLIANCE (TICA) TOURISM COMMITTEE Networking; The INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE HOUSING FOUNDATION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC; THE COOPERATIVE UNION OF MALAYSIA and through horizontal contacts with other National Co-operative Organisations.
One of its largest horizontal contacts is the NATIONAL COOPERATIVE HOUSING FEDERATION OF INDIA which has over 95,0000 Co-operative societies as its members and millions of house owning or expected house owning members.
The Co-operative movement the world over has about 700 million members and it is a formidable social and economic force. It has no political; religious; racial; creed or national boundaries as such. It believes in the free and holistic spirit of man.
The Malaysian Cooperative movement came into being in 1921 in order to alleviate the sufferings of migrant workers from the clutches of 'Loan Sharks'. Despite the existence of Co-operatives and numerous Banking and Financial institutions - the Loan Sharks still feed on the unwary with great frenzy. What a world this is !!!!!!!!
